GARDENS AROUND TOWN

In addition to Harbor Way Gardens at Wrightsville Beach Park, members of Harbor Island Garden Club help maintain several gardens around town.  

Durwood Sykes Garden

Durwood Sykes was an icon in Wrightsville Beach. One of his many contributions included lovingly maintaining what locals call Sunset Park, mowing, planting, pruning and coaxing it to one of the loviest places on the island. After his death in 2024, with support from the Harbor Island Garden Club, the Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman renamed the park the Durwood Sykes Garden. Read more about Durwood Sykes.
