A LITTLE ABOUT US ...

The Harbor Island Garden Club was organized in 1952. The present membership - forty-nine (49) active members, thirteen (13) honorary members, two (2) lifetime members, and four (4) emeritus members - is comprised of beach residents, children of current members, or members who lived at Wrightsville Beach when they joined the club but later moved inland.
The Harbor Island Garden Club has a reputation for being an outstanding club, winning many awards over the years. Actively involved in community beautification, the club has worked closely with various city programs for environmental improvements. Each year, our members donate hundreds of volunteer hours to maintaining the island gardens, supporting our junior gardening program, raising funds, and preserving our coast. Our organizational memberships include: 2023-24 Executive Board Ashley Miller, President Vicki Dull, First Vice President Eva Elmore & Kim Watters, Second Vice Presidents Laura Kay Berry, Third Vice President Katy Cofer & Heidi Lee, Fourth Vice Presidents Melinda Walker, Recording Secretary Wylene McDonald & Francine Streich, Corresponding Secretaries Beth Golder, Treasurer Find us on Facebook: Facebook.com/harborislandgardenclub Club Colors: Shell Pink and Sea Green Club Flower: Gaillardia (Beach Daisy) Club Poem On day three of the creation God looked down and then he smiled For clinging bravely to a sand dune Appeared a daisy, growing wild. Not an ordinary daisy - This one seemed to take its cues From the colors of the sunset Gold and crimson's vibrant hues. Needing a little cultivation Always facing toward the sun. How we love this humble flower In our hearts, it's number one. - By Fran Russ, HIGC Club Member |
